Bovilis Huskvac is a vaccine used for immunisation against husk or lungworm infection in cattle. Bovilis Huskvac is highly effective and important for the development of immunity. Despite the fact that Bovilis Huskvac is still available, a high number of farmers have discontinued the use of the vaccine, and a sharp increase in husk cases throughout the country especially in adult cattle has been reported. Vaccination against husk is a vital component in a cattle worm control strategy.

Bovilis Huskvac is indicated for the prophylactic immunisation of young cattle against parasitic bronchitis attributable to Dictyocaulus viviparus. Bovilis Huskvac should be administered orally to healthy calves which are 8 weeks or older. Two doses of Bovilis Huskvac are required, separated by an interval of approximately 4 weeks. The use of Bovilis Huskvac as part of the parasite control strategy in combination with wormers may seem complicated, and vets should ideally discuss this with farmers in order for them to understand the importance of vaccination for the development of a protective lifelong immunity against husk in cattle.
