Texting boosts vaccination
29 October 2007
While only half of the dog population and a quarter of the cat population are up-to-date with their vaccinations and the uptake of vaccination is on a worrying downward curve, Scarsdale Veterinary Hospital in Derbyshire is bucking the trend with a massive 80% vaccination rate.
According to John Turkington, partner at Scarsdale, the secret to their success lies in constant multi-channel communication. “These days, pet diseases are not immediately obvious to owners. Anything we can do to remind them that their dog needs its vaccinations and ‘MOT check’ helps to increase footfall in the practice. This is where Intervet’s practice development initiatives have helped boost business.”
Booster reminder cards have traditionally been the mainstay for reminding owners that their pet’s vaccination is due. However, veterinary nurses found producing and distributing them a time-consuming and arduous process. When Scarsdale was first approached about the new web-based solution from Intervet that allows a practice to text message clients, they seized the opportunity.
“By using e-booster it took me less than five minutes to upload and set up all the necessary details,” comments John. “e-booster always uses up-to-date information so I know I’m reaching existing clients . It also generates a weekly report of who has been contacted successfully. We have now sent over 1600 e-booster reminders and 99.99% of our customers think it is marvellous. They’re happy to have the extra reminder to book their pet in for their booster – at a time when their phone is to hand! It is a very fast and highly efficient service that is being offered.”
