Nobils MG6/85 Data Sheet

Presentation

Live, freeze-dried viral vaccine containing live attenuated Mycoplasma gallisepticum strain MG 6/85  ≥ 106.9 cfu per dose.  For reconstitution and administration by spray vaccination.

Uses

For the active immunisation of future layers to reduce airsacculitis and tracheitis lesions caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum.

Dosage and administration

Reconstitute the vaccine with the appropriate volume of water to achieve ≥ 106.9 cfu (1 dose) per animal  and administer by aerosol (spray) vaccination.

Vaccination scheme

The vaccine can be administered as a single vaccination to chickens of six weeks or older.

Preparation of vaccine

The vaccine must be used within two hours of reconstitution.

1.   Use clean, cool, non-chlorinated water.

2.   Open the bottle under water.

3.   Remove the tear-off seal and stopper from the vial.

4.      Add the vaccine to the amount of water that is needed for the aerosol. The volume of water for reconstitution should be sufficient to ensure an even distribution when sprayed onto the birds. This will vary according to the age of the birds being vaccinated and the management system, but 250 to 500 ml of water per 1,000 doses is suggested.

Aerosol administration

1.       Vaccinate with a suitable spray device that is able to produce fine droplets. The vaccine suspension should be spread evenly over the correct number of birds, at a distance of approximately 40 cm.

2.       Do not use any disinfectants or skimmed milk in sprayer.

3.   Use sprayer only for administration of vaccines. Clean thoroughly after use.

4.   Shut off all fans while spray vaccinating. Also close air-inlets.

5.      Follow the recommendation of the manufacturer of the sprayer regarding water volume.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc.

Vaccinate healthy chickens only.

Not to be used within four weeks of onset of egg production or during lay.  Not intended for future breeders.

Administration of anti-mycoplasma drugs within five days prior to or two weeks after vaccination, may be detrimental to the vaccine strain.

No information is available on the effects of the concurrent use of this vaccine with any other preparation. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccine should be administered within 14 days before or after vaccination with this product.

Care should be taken to prevent spread of the vaccine strain to birds other than chickens and turkeys, such as game birds, geese and ducks.

Further information

The vaccine strain Mycoplasma gallisepticum MG 6/85 can be isolated in birds for at least 15 weeks after vaccination.  Seroconversion may occur after vaccination in rare cases.

The vaccine strain can be differentiated from wild Mycoplasma gallisepticum based on routine DNA analysis.

Any regulations in force concerning the prophylaxis of mycoplasmosis should be followed.

A good immune response is reliant on the reaction of an immunogenic agent and a fully competent immune system. Immunogenicity of the vaccine antigen will be reduced by poor storage or inappropriate administration. Immunocompetence of the animal may be compromised by a variety of factors including poor health, nutritional status, genetic factors, concurrent drug therapy and stress. Under certain conditions, for example extreme disease pressure and variant challenge, fully immune birds may succumb to disease. Therefore, successful vaccination may not be synonymous with full protection in the face of a disease challenge.
